I live here in NC where the winters are not usually long.  It seems like we go straight from Fall to a short Winter and right into Summer.  But this year we have had an exceptional long Winter. I myself love to be outdoors and can't stand the cold!

I try every year to get my son and my girls to help me with a garden.  So far this year, I have my son just ready to get his hands dirty.  He will be 15 in July and we have been playing around with starting seeds inside the house.  So he not only gets to watch his plants grow, but we are also watching the roots start, before planting them.  He is More of my Veggie gardener, because we have about 5 rabbits and he wanted to grow some special treats such as:carrots, and celery.

My girls which are 4 and 9, are more into the pretty flowers, but not much into doing the fun work to get those flowers.  I say that but it depends on their mood.  Sometimes they want to get out there and help me in my flower bed and then sometimes they just want to ride their bikes.

Because winter was a little extra longer this year my flowers have been kind of left to do there own thing.  So now that it is warmer I am getting my gardening supplies together so I can make them pretty again.  With Scotts Florida Select Natural Eucalyptus Mulch or with Scotts Nature Scapes mulch, you have sustainable gardening.  Both of them come in 3 different colors, Classic black, sierra red, and deep  forest brown.  My favorite is the sierra red but because mulch typically looses its colors I go with the brown.  It looks more natural and makes for a beautiful garden accent.

While getting ready to work this year I have already purchased my flowers, seeds, gathered all of my rakes, garden hoe, knee pads, gloves, watering can, and Scotts Nature Scapes mulch.  We will start by loosening the ground dirt up, and removing any weeds that are there and try to get the roots up so they don't' come back,  This is where the mulch helps out too because it helps to keep the weeds at bay.

If you haven't already tried Scotts Florida Select Natural Eucalyptus Mulch for my Florida readers or Scotts Nature Scapes mulch for everyone else then you really must give it a try.  It just makes a garden pretty and much healthier.  I use it for holding moisture in around my plants, when it is so dry outside, and keeping the weeds at bay.  Nobody wants to be out pulling weeds everyday to, that is when it becomes a job and not fun.

Here is a list of a few things you need to get started on your garden this year:

1. You need a tiller or as in my case a shovel and hoe to prepare the ground, 2. Seeds or plants to be panted in your garden, 3. I use a good soil fertilizer to help my soil from where it has been depleted from the previous plantings,  4.  Location, you want to find the perfect location for the plant you are planting, 5. Knee pads, gloves, and apron.  This is for those that don't like to really get their hands dirty, I enjoy feeling the dirt in my hands so I don't use these. 5.  And of course you will need Scotts Florida Select Natural Eucalyptus Mulchfor my Florida readers and Scotts Nature Scapes mulch for all other readers to finish the garden of!

I hope you enjoy your Spring, and Earth Day on 4/22 with preparing a beautiful yard and getting those pretty flowers and veggies planted.
