     Do you remember when you watched TV you had to get up and turn the channel or even adjust the volume?   I am just 35 years old and I remember, you also only had about 3 channels to watch and you had adjust the screen.  We thought we were something then and really had NO idea what that little technology would bring us to 30 years later!  Now the technology allows us to watch TV in our favorite chair and never get up to turn it, we have DVD's and CD's.  We even have remote controls and TV's for our cars now.  But the questions come up now about home security.  I remember growing up or security system was our big dog that we had a my dad kept his shotgun handy!  But have you heard of the Verizon Fios?  Allow me to tell you a few things I have learned about this system and the new technology it uses and tell me what you think!

Father's Day and My Daddy

     We are just one week away from Father's Day!  As important as our Mother's are so are our Father's.  I would like to share with my readers some memories past and present about my Father and what he means to me and welcome any comments you have on you and your Daddy!

     As a child I remember both my parents worked what seemed to be all the time.  I never really understood it but just knew  that it would pay off in the end.  While still I did not know or  understand I my dad I do remember all the times we went to do things together.  I was always the outside buff.  I never have been an inside person and enjoyed working in the yard much more than working in the house, so growing up I helped my dad with all the yard work and maintenance on the cars.  Because they worked so much Saturday was a workday around the house for us, and when it was about 1 PM he would look around and say "Are you hungry yet"?  Knowing what was coming next the answer was always "YES".  He would then go in the house to see if Mama wanted something and then we would load up in his truck and go to the Tastee Freeze.  For those of you that do not know what A Tastee Freeze is, well it is a little building that makes hot dogs, hamburgers, and had the best milkshakes in town.  We loved it so much and would work all day just knowing we were going to get to go get a chocolate milkshake when it was all done!

     I also remember when my dad worked 2nd shift our family owned and old green station wagon and my mother would cook supper and feed the kids.  She would fix daddy a plate and then at 7:45 PM mama, me, and my little sister would load up in the wagon and take daddy's supper to him.  He went on break at 8 and me and my sister waited patiently to see him come out of the door and then we would take off running to meet him.  While he ate his supper we would play under a weeping willow tree.  I will never forget the way my daddy would smell when he cake out that door.  He worked in a plant that made those really big transformers that helps all of us have power in our house and he kindda had a medal smell.  Hard to explain because it wasn't a bad smell just memorable!

     Then there are The Country Gospel Singers... My daddy played a guitar and him and his brother got together and started this group.  While they never got rich traveling the world I remember going to the local TV stations, and radios stations and hearing them.  We traveled to churches around and me and my baby sister would sing Victory in Jesus with them.  I love to hear my daddy talk about how he learned to play the guitar.  He never took lessons, or had someone to teach him but he had an old window pane that him and his brother would pretend to play.  Eventually you get the singer I know and love today!

     This is a little about my daddy and there is so much more to tell.  He is a man that took care of his family and gave is what we needed even if if took something from him.  He is a  hardworking man and even after retirement still works just as hard as he did when he was 20, 30, and 40.  Now I would love to know a little about your dad, good bad, serious, or just funny!  I think sometimes I could write a book about my dad and it would never be boring regardless of the person reading it they would be able to relate...

10 Tips on keeping your Family safe on the road #SafeliteSafe

     Here in Goldsboro North Carolina we are about four hours from the Mountains and 1 1/2 hours from the beach.  Memorial day weekend starts Summer off for us especially at the beach.  The Mountains is alot of fun in the Fall to see the leaves changing colors and the cooler air after a long HOT Summer!  Our family enjoys both for different reasons and would like to share some of the things that we do to help us have a happy and safe road trip.  These are not just tips for a long trip, some of these tips are good to put into practice on a daily basis.

1.  Keep car maintained - Your oil levels, transmission fluids, brake pads, rotors, belts, brake fluid, and water.  This not only helps to avoid a break down on a trip but also helps with longevity of your car.  Simple maintenance now can save you time in travel and fuel cost.

2.  Check your tires - You really want to keep a check on your tire pressure monthly, before a long trip and after.  Tire pressure not only assists in keeping your family safe but also if kept at the proper pressure helps you save fuel.  You should also rotate your tires about every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

3.  Cell Phones - We try to teach our children how unsafe it is to talk/text and drive but do we follow?  If you need to talk or answer have someone else to answer and pull to the RIGHT side median/shoulder.  I specify right because in most states the left side of the road is used for Emergency vehicles. These are a wonderful thing to have in a full charge also if you happen to break down.

4.  Leave home early - Most accidents are caused by drivers being in a hurry to be somewhere and had they just left their house a little earlier the wouldn't be so rushed.  I always like to leave for vacation in the middle of the night because we beat alot of the traffic in the smaller towns and it is much more relaxing than trying to navigate with what seems like thousands of people on the road!

5.  Tired, Sleepy - Don't drive if you are tired or sleepy.  IF there is another driver in the car then rotate out some of the driving, or find a Hotel and get some sleep.  There is NO trip worth losing yours or anyone Else's life  because you were too tired to drive.

6.  Seatbelts, Car seats - - Make sure you and everyone is properly fastened in their seat belt and for the little joys in our life make sure they are in a proper car seat.  If you are not sure which car seat is right for your child you can contact your local Highway Patrol Station and they will help you decide the proper one for child and also now they will show you how to properly install the car seat into your vehicle.  This is free to you and in the long run of safety is PRICELESS!

7.  Rest Areas - If traveling with children of any age it is not a bad idea to stop at almost every rest area.  When me and my Grandmother traveled to GA. we stopped at everyone we came to just to get out and stretch and move around a little.

8.  Children - While keeping them in their car seat they are going to get tired and bored of just riding.  Allow them to take something to do like crayons and coloring books, and I have found that the little TV's that strap to the back of the seat works really well too.  Also you have to make sure that you have set rules that there are to be no fighting or throwing objects in the car.  If they need to play allow them time to run at the rest areas when you stop to release some built up energy.

9.  Don't Offend - Ok so by this I mean to avoid cutting off other drivers, tailgating, and making offensive gestures to other driver.  Be cautious and courteous and use your turn signals when changing lanes.  Check your mirrors and know what the other cars or where the other s cars are before making any moves.  If it is raining, foggy, or the obvious at night be sure to use your headlights.  In some states it is the law that if you need to use your windshield wiper then you need your headlights.  If you are not sure run them the whole time and avoid the high beams if at all possible.

10.  Kits - Whether I am on a trip or just going into town I like to carry my first aide kit and my roadside kit.  Both kits have things that I may need in case of an accident or breakdown.    I also keep extra blankets in the car for the winter months in the event we break down and the battery dies we can wrap up and keep warm.  In the summer months water for Human consumption is kept in mass supply along with snacks like crackers or something that will not melt.

This is only 10 tips but there are so many more things that you can do to keep your family safe while traveling.  In most cases it is just common sense but may be things we don't even think about.  Before my family travels especially on a long trip we say a prayer for God to keep us and others on the road safe.

Graduation!

James, David, and Betty Moye



     One of the most important parts of our lives is getting through Elementary, Middle, and finally High School.  Then before you know it your children are Graduating College.  Well, this isn't about my child but about my husband. 

      David graduated  from High school in 1993, and went to college briefly but due to other circumstances he quit.  We were married on August 8, 2008 and he went back to school.  Thank God it is finally over and he Graduated with Honors (Presidents List) May 2011.  He is a licensed Electrical Contractor and went back to school to become a HVAC service tech.  With the economy being so down that we have to look for other options to support the family.  With my father already being a HVAC tech. and getting ready to retire he helps bring knowledge and work our way!

     We were are so very proud of David when he graduated and can't wait to see what the future holds for him now.  Of course we  just celebrated here and now we have fathers day coming up, so we will be celebrating for weeks to come!

5 Vacations for every child!

     As I child I can remember every year going somewhere on vacation with my parents.  Some were memorable simply for the fun times we had and some we remember just because something bad always seem to happen.  And when I say bad I don't mean anyone got hurt just maybe we broke down in a really bad part of town, or we were without water for a while!  I would not trade any of those moments now though for anything.  I have five vacations that children would really enjoy given the chance to go.

     The first one being the obvious to us all is Walt Disney World in Florida.  I went and turned 2 there so I don't remember that trip and I went back when I was 18.  The little girls have their Princesses and the little boys have their Kings and Princes.  I enjoyed the 3-D movies and they have alot of fun rides.  Unfortunately some are not for me but I seen and enjoyed alot of children on them having the time of their life.  We spent three days there and I still have not seen everything there, and of course they keep adding new stuff to the park about every 2 years they get them finished.  They did have some educational  things at The Epcot Center and me being not the Science person I am I even enjoyed it.  They make learning fun there and I can't wait to take my children again someday!

     The second place for vacation would have to be the Mountains of North Carolina.  I first went to the Mountains when I was about seven years old and we stayed in my Aunts house.  Right done the road there lived two brothers.  I will never forget them Jake and Sam were their names, and I thought they were the biggest Hillbillies I had ever meet. As I have grown and revisit almost every year I have learned to look around up there and just admire God's work.  Once you get out of the city areas and ride through the countryside you find yourself just lost in amazement and almost looking for a house to buy, because you enjoyed it so much.  As children we would go hiking through the hills and woods, and unlike in other areas of North Carolina if you step foot on someone Else's property you are not as likely to get shot at.  As crazy as that sounds I have been there too!  I learned that a Birch tree you can chew on the stick and it tasted like peppermint, and the creeks because they flow downhill are some of the cleanest water you will ever drink.  It not only is clean but colder than if you had ice in it!(Just make sure you are UPSTREAM from any cattle or horses, LOL).

     My next stop being number three would be the Beach.  I don't know of any child who has ever visited that didn't want to stay and go back very often.  There are alot of things there to do a s a family and really enjoy yourself.  We all have different things we like to do, all the kids enjoy the water including my husband.  Me? Well myself I am afraid of the ocean so I don't go out there to far into the water.  My favorite thing to there is to walk the beach and collect seashells, and go fishing (even though I don't like to eat fish, I enjoy fishing with the family.)  If it is possible for you to get tired of being on the beach you can go play putt-putt, they have a souvenir shop about every two buildings, and food like crazy.  If you are looking for fish to eat you went to the right place.

    Fourth on my list would have to be for us the North Carolina Zoo.  I have yet to meet a child that did not enjoy the Zoo no matter how many times they go.  So far I haven;t been able to take my children but it is definitely would we have talked about and plan on doing.  The only thing is I remember going to the Zoo as a child and it was just so big and you were just exhausted at the end of the day that you really did not enjoy anything after a certain time.  I have not checked on rates for the Zoo this year and I am afraid to take my little one because she is only 2 and I won't her to remember going!  I was really young when I went to the Zoo and do not remember anything about it, so I am a firm believer that some vacations such as this needs to be done when the child can remember what they saw!  I can't wait to go back myself!

     My 5th vacation that every child should go on would be just a camping trip with Family.  No matter where the location is.  Our Family goes to a piece of property that my in-laws own and it is over 100 Acres so we go there and camp, we can fish in the little pond, and take our dirt bikes, ATV's and go carts and ride.  We enjoy our Family time together weather we are off spending lots of money or we are just outside around a campfire with marshmallows.  I think honestly we enjoy the camping more than anything because we have no rules and no set times for anything. We can also ride our toys and not worry about anyone else around us.

      Every vacation you go on can be made to be a memorable moment.  You don't have to spend a lot of money and in a lot of cases you don't even have to go out of town.  We spend family time together and just enjoy the time we have together doing things "WE" enjoy!
