Christmas Poem (Something we Should all Keep in MInd)

Twas the month before Christmas and all through the town
Not a sign of Baby Jesus was anywhere to be found.
The people were all busy with Christmas time chores
Like decorating and baking, and shopping in stores.
No one Sang "Away in the Manger, No crib for a bed".
Instead, they sang Santa dressed up in bright red.
Mama watched Martha Stewart, Papa drank beer from a tap.
As hour upon hour the presents they'd wrap.

When from the TV, did they suddenly hear?
'Crept an ad... Which told of a big sale at Sears.
So away to the mall they all flew like a flash...
Buying things on credit... and others with cash!
And, as they made their way home from their trip to the mall.
Did they think about Jesus? Oh, no...Not at all.
Their lives were so busy with their Christmas things
No time to rememberChrist Jesus, the King.
There were presents to wrap and cookies to bake.
How could they stop and remember who died for their sake?

To Pray to the Savior...they had no time to stop.
Because they needed more time to "Shop til they dropped!"
On Wal-mart! On K-mart! On target! On Penny's!
On Hallmark! On Zales! And a lunch at denny's
From the big stores downtown to the stores in the mall
They would dash away, dash away, and visit them all!
And up on the roof, there arose such a clatter
As grandpa hung icicle lights with his brand new step ladder.
He hung lights that would flash. He hung lights that would twirl.
Yet, he never once prayed to Jesus... Light of the World.
Christ's eyes...How they twinkle! Christ's Spirit. How merry!
Christ's Love...How enormous! All our burdens... He'll carry!
So instead o being busy, overworked, and uptight
Let's put Christ back in Christmas and enjoy same good nights!

Jesus Daily Review

I am a person that can use a little inspiration each day but I don't always know where to get it or what I need.  I was given The Jesus Daily to do a review on and let me tell you.  Though I started almost at the end of the book and only got to read a couple of weeks, I found a good way to start my day.  There is a daily inspiration for all 365 days of the year.  This is a book that once you have read it, you can just go back and get a little extra inspiration that day.
This past week has been one of the hardest weeks of my life because my 6 year old got the FLU.  It has taken a toll on not only her with 104+ temperatures but it has taken a toll on me, her Mama.  I have sat up about every night making sure she can breathe, and checking her temp to make sure she was OK.   Through all the troubles I have had this week I would find just one minute to read the daily devotion and trust me when I say that it helped, it helped.
On December 14th 2003, I lost my 7 month old nephew.  It makes it hard this time of year, because you tend to think of the loved ones we lost and find it hard to remember the good times you had with them  Well, because of losing him around this time of year when one of my little ladies gets sick, I worry that it may be worse than I think and I can't seem to rest until they feel better.
While I have sat up these many nights, making sure my baby was OK I have not only just read my Jesus Daily devotion but I have skipped through and read a few others.  It helped guide me in my Bible studies and gave me hope when it appeared there was no Hope left in this world.  Everywhere we turn we see negativity in the world, and it doesn't appear that there is anyway to escape it.  It is on social media, the news, radio, and and even talked about in our schools making it almost impossible to avoid.  But with this book, if not but for a moment gave me a sense a of relief that I'm not alone and he is always with me guiding me in the path that I am on.

Now that I have told you my thoughts on the book, I have one that I would like to share with my readers.  All you have to do is follow Via GFC, and leave me a comment telling me the name you followed under.  Also Tell me what you do for a daily inspiration in this world of demise.  What gives you daily Hope, and understanding? That's it, and I will draw a Random winner on 12/22/14.
You may want to follow Southern Mom of 4 on Facebook so that you can see the winner when released!

What's for Dinner?

A little about McCall:
McCall Farms is a family-owned, 170 year-old company based in Effingham, SC. They gather their crops from all over South Carolina, North Carolina and other southern states.  McCall Farms produces more than 40 different products under the Margaret Holmes®, Glory Foods®, Bruce Yams® and Peanut Patch® brands, as well as private-label and foodservice products, which are sold nationwide.

Do you use canned goods when you are cooking your Thanksgiving or yet to come Christmas dinner?  I have to admit that I do, you can find some really great ideas using canned goods and it saves time, money, and sanity when you have a big family like I do.
McCall Farms offers some awesome food in a can, and I not only use them at big events such as Christmas but I also use them daily.  The food is fresh and can be used right out of the can or you can add a little something to it to make it semi-homemade.  I have to admit I love fresh out of the garden foods but I can take a can of collards, cook me some ham, add the can collards and they are just as good if not better than homemade.  A little salt,a dash of pepper, and it's a meal in less the time and you savage your sanity with more time to spend with your family and friends.
Now for the fun part, they are hosting a cooking contest.  You can get all the information here, go enter for your chance to win big.  There are 25 days left to enter so hurry and get your recipes ready and get entered! Because the winner will be selected by the number of votes your recipe gets, you need to get it out there ASAP so people can vote.
Good Luck to each of you.

Tubeless Scott Toilet Tissue Review

"Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): I received a free sample of Scott Natural tubeless Toilet tissue to sample and share my thoughts.  It in no way affects my opinions expressed here.  These are my true feelings and have nothing to do with me receiving a product from +Crowdtap nor @ScottProducts

Have you tried the new Scott Natural #TubeFree toilet tissue yet? I was given a chance to try them tubeless tissue and I have to say that it is the same quality tissue just without the extra trash. My husband is famous for not using the last of the toilet paper so that he doesn't have to discard the roll.  With the Scott Tubeless rolls there is no tube and nothing to throw away.

With that being said I have an entire board on @Pinterest dedicated to recycling the toilet paper tissue rolls with some really cute ideas.  Then I discovered sitting here wrapping gifts that there are so many other things that we use that to has tubes in them to make these same great little ideas.   IF you would like to see what you can make with tubes click here.

I would like each of you to take the pledge to go tubless at the same time.  But if you are like me you have a stash of grocery bags, and toilet paper tubes because you can use them for something, though your really just not sure of what just yet!  Take the pledge and you can still use wrapping paper tube and paper towel tubes until they take the pledge and go tubeless also!

About the book: Softcover / 230 pages

Every day, one of Amy Julie Becker’s children says something that prompts her to think about life in a new way. “Mom, does Santa love me?” William asks, after his mother explains the meaning of Christmas…In a chat with her dad about the children who died in the Sandy Hook shootings, Penny asks, “Did they go to heaven?” …”You was a jerk, Mommy?” asks Marilee one morning in the car.
These conversations deepen Amy Julia’s relationships with her children, but they also refine her understanding of what she believes and what God is doing in her own life.
In Small Talk, Amy Julia draws from the wisdom and curiosity of those young voices to reflect on beauty and kindness, tragedy and disability, prayer and miracles. As she moves through the basic questions her kids posed when they were very young to the more intellectual questions of later childhood, she invites us to learn from our own day-to-day conversations with the children in our lives.
This eloquent parenting memoir is about the big questions little hearts ask, the thoughts their words provoke, and the laughter and soul-searching their honesty brings—to adult and child alike.

About the author:
Amy Julia Becker writes about faith, family, and disability for Parents.com, the New York Times Motherlode blog, TheAtlantic.com, The Huffington Post parents page, Christianity Today, The Christian century, and numerous other publications. Her first book, A Good and Perfect Gift: Faith, Expectations, and a Little Girl Named Penny, was named one of the Top Ten Religion Books of 2011 by Publishers Weekly. Amy Julia lives in western Connecticut with her husband and three children.

My Thoughts:

This was a great book , and when you read it you can learn a lot.  It kind of made me realize what my kids are saying to me.  They pick up on so much from you as a parent, society, the TV, and the school system.  From the birth of our Children to when they finally just stop believing we tell them about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, but at what age and why do really really tell them about Jesus Christ's birth and  being crucified on the cross for our sins to only rise from the dead 3 days later?
These are things that Amy's children ask her about and get her thinking about the true meanings in life and she breaks things down to how she explained it to them.   This was a really great guide on helping me explain things to my girls that are 6 and 10 and my son that is 16.  Not just Santa Claus but also everyday life and happenings.

How do you explain to your child about ISIS and the Ferguson protests?  I asked my niece what she thought of these things and I was astounded by her response, to say the least.  She repeated what she heard on the TV even though I know she was raised differently.  Now don't get me wrong, I believe that we have to have our opinion on things and that we MUST stand for what we believe in.  Otherwise we too will do just as she has done and just repeat verbatim what we have heard rather it is right or wrong.

In this book these are things that Amy's kids have said to her to make her think on a much deeper level and how to explain it to them not only so that they understand but I think so that me, you, and herself also understand better.   It is a really great book and I have one to share with one of my readers.  If you would like to win all you have to do is leave a comment telling me one thing one of your Children, nieces, nephews, Grandchildren, etc has said to you to make you think on a deeper level?
This contest will end on 12/ 9 at 12 midnight EST.  Share with your friends, the more we have involved the more interesting it will be!

Don't just clean it, Zep it

Do you have a cleaning routine that you stick everyday or every week?  I am NOT an organized person and I struggle with getting some of the simplest tasked complete.  However I was given a sample of Zep commercial cleaners to try and let me tell you, it makes the hardest jobs easy.

I hate cleaning bathrooms, I guess like most of,  and with Zep it cleaned up so nicely.  No hard scrubbing, in fact I sprayed a little on, let it set while I arranged the counters, and wiped away.  I am definitely #TeamZep now and don't want to go back.  I think with these cleaners, I could even be a professional house keeper, LOL.

If you haven't tried the Zep cleaners, degreasers, and drain clog removers yet, then you must give a shot.  Come back and let me know what you think about it.  If you have previously tried it let us all know your thoughts.

Is technology bringing your family closer together or driving you farther apart?

Children today are no longer playing hide-and-seek outside or curling up with a good book—instead they’ve been introduced to a world of constant digital entertainment through television, video games, and mobile devices. And while technology has the potential to add value to our lives and families, it can also erode a sense of togetherness and hinder a child’s emotional and social development.

In Growing Up Social, Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane will empower you with the necessary tools to make positive changes…starting today. Through stories, wit, and wisdom, you’ll discover how to take back your home from an over dependence on screens. Plus, you’ll learn to teach the five A+ skills that every healthy child needs to master: affection, appreciation, anger management, apology, and attention.

•Equip your child to be relationally rich in a digital world
•Replace mindless screen time with meaningful family time
•Establish simple boundaries that make a huge difference
•Discover what’s working for families that have become screen savvy
•Learn healthy ways to occupy your child while you get things done

Now is the time to equip your child to live with screen time, not for screen time. No phone, tablet, or gaming device can teach your child how to have healthy relationships—only you can.

How many of you can relate??

My Thoughts:

When I was growing up, the only thing we had as far a technology was an Atari.  Yes, I'm sure I just told my age, but oh well.  It wasn't until I was a teenager and had a job that pagers became so popular.  Before then the only people that had a pager was the really rich, and jobs such as Doctor's.  Around the same time car phones came out and when I say car phone I literally mean car phones.  This was a huge bag that was a phone and it even had a cord on it so it wasn't very convenient to walk around with, you just used it in the car.  But what we didn't have to worry about was a Family sitting at the table and playing with the different types of devices.  We did have a TV in the dining room and that was just enough distraction but even then when it was on it was strictly the news.  Other wise we used this time to talk about our day, and whatever needed to be discussed as a Family.  Now a days you don't even see many Families that sit down to dinner together, more less hear about them talking to one another.
In this book the Author talks about Pornography then and now.  I am only 38 years old and I remember that if you saw porn it was because someone you knew had it, and you were where you were NOT supposed to be.  But now with the Internet children today can just flat Google search and it is at their fingertips!  I don't speak of the porn lightly because we bought our daughters, (9 and 5) at Christmas, a tablet for their Christmas gift from Santa, because of their age we used our Google accounts to set them up.  At the time we were not even thinking about how we could use the fact of our account to keep track of what the girls were doing, but I am so glad we did it this way.  When I looked back at some of my history we discovered that I had been searching for porn, and watching porn videos on YouTube.  Because I knew I wasn't looking at this and that my oldest daughter shared my Google account I knew exactly what was happening.  Though I realized and found out what was going on, I still was lost on how to handle it.
This Book Growing up Social talks about all of these subjects, and it doesn't just target your kids, it hits home when it tells you as a parent to get off of social media.  Make time for Family and friends, turn the phones off and play a game with your children.   Reading this book was almost like going to church and having the Pastor step on your toes.  You know that you are guilty of some of things and maybe a lot of the things, so how do change.  We start with our-self, and pray that we teach our children the right things to do.
Want to know more about this book?  I have a copy to send to one LUCKY reader, and I am really excited about it.

Dogs of War ~Review~

 About the Show:

DOGS OF WAR spotlights combat veteran Jim Stanek, who returns home struggling with PTSD. He looks into getting a service dog to help him heal, only to discover how expensive they are, and how long the wait to be paired with one is. So he starts his own nonprofit to rescue dogs from kill shelters, train them as service dogs and partner them with struggling veterans at little or no cost.

The show premieres Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10PM ET/PT and then moves to Sundays at 10PM ET/PT beginning Nov. 16 on A&E

In an era when most reality TV is hypersexualized, about cutthroat competition or designed solely to make us laugh at the culture of its “stars,” it is so refreshing to be associated with a series like this, which spotlights a man who uses the greatest pain in his life to offer the greatest comfort to the lives of others.

My Thoughts:

First let me say that I was given an opportunity to view the first episode and I laughed, I smiled and I cried.  I know what PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) can do to someone, nad when we think of PTSD we usually think of our War Heroes.  The definition of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after you have gone through an extreme emotional trauma that involved the threat of injury or death. This can be caused by anything from Domestic Violence, or a abusive childhood, and to the obvious of War!
This film talks with War Veterans that suffer from PTSD and places them with a dof from the Shelter and trains them to be a service dog.  The man in the first episode Mike suffers from so many physcal aliments and mental disorders.  The dogs are used not just for the mental (PTSD) but also to assist in the physical aliments.
When I first started watching, and realized they were training shelter dogs to be service dogs, I caught myself asking, How does the dog help with the physical part?  Well, you may be asking yourself the same question and here is MY answer: When we feel good mentally, we tend to feel better physically.  I have Rockweiler  and Pitt bull mix, his name is Diesel and about 7 years old.  When I get home and I feel bad he has a way of making me feel loved.  He has such an excitement that even our spouse can't always show us because they  have had a bad day or maybe they are just tired, but our dogs never seem to be too tired to e there for us or to show us the love and attention we need.

This is a picture of my Diesel and my two girls, he is great with our family and as you can see form the pictures he allows them to do about what they want to do to him and never even barks.  We got him when he was a puppy and of course nobody wanted him, so we rescued him and he became a part of my family then. We trained him, not to be a service dog, but to be part of the family.  As big as he is, he comes in my house and he knows to lay down.  He is just way too big to run and get hyper inside, but as soon as he gets outside he goes hogwild.  Every home needs a good friend and that is not only what we have but also what these Veterans are looking for!

That is the purpose of these service dogs, they become a part of the Soldiers and their family.
If I can tell one thing, you will NOT be disappointed if you watch the first episode on November 11, at 10 PM on A&E.  Here is the trailer to the film, watch and let me know what are your thoughts on it!  Will you plan on watching when it airs?

About the book:

Hardcover / 316 Pages
Discover how to live out a sacred marriage. You believe your marriage has eternal purposes. you long for it to reach beyond your home and encourage others. But what does it look like to have a spiritually intentional relationship in the midst of dirty dishes, work deadlines, and car pools? In Sacred Marriage, Gary Thomas showed us that God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy. Now, in A Lifelong Love, Thomas gives us the practical tools to craft our marriages into inspiring relationships that breathe spiritual life to others. Whatever season of marriage you are in, A Lifelong Love gives your the practical help you need to infuse your marriage with a spiritual passion that will not only change you but will change the world around you.

About the author:

Gary Thomas is writer-in-residence at Second Baptist Church in Houston, a frequent guest on Focus on the Family and FamilyLife Today radio, and a popular speaker. His award-winning books, including The Sacred Search, have been translated into over a dozen languages and together have sold more than a million copies worldwide. Thomas and his wife have been married thirty years and have three children.

My Thoughts:

What is Marriage to you?  Is it just a union by the State, extra benefits at tax time, a spouse that helps you manage a house, or is your marriage your best friend that you get to spend the rest of your life together?  I was engaged 3 times and on my second Marriage, not because I didn't love the others but because they were not meant to be.  This time I married my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and my soul mate! Marriage is so much more than just two people saying I Do.
As Gary Thomas states in his book in the beginning you spend the first part of your relationship talking about the past, then you get engaged, and before you know it you are saying I do. After you say I do it doesn't stop there, in fact that is where it all starts.

There are many aspects to a great Marriage and to me it starts with you.  You have to love yourself before you can love someone else, and if you are putting God first in your life then you will see that your love life will fall into place.  You will find a man that loves you for your brain, your soul, your relationship with God, and he will understand that he is second in this relationship.  So many times we jump into relationships based on looks, and they do fade, but it the marriage is built around God then your spouse will always see that beautiful husband or wife they married.

I see so many marriages now that aren't working and too many people getting married with the idea that if it don't work out then we can get a divorce.  I don't condone this attitude and think that a marriage is a lifetime commitment.  My first husband was very abusive and the second guy I was engaged to was abusive to my son from my first marriage.  I researched and study the Bible, I talked with my pastor and other elders in the church seeking answers and at no point could anyone so me where it says that when I said Til Death Doth Us Part, did it mean that my spouse would be the death of me.  I had others to think about and I left to save not only me but my son.  Then I reconnected with what is now my FINAL Husband.  Yes, he is my second husband , third engagement but this time I feel more and more everyday like it is the right one.  Do we fight? If I said no I would be telling you a lie, our marriage isn't perfect and yes we have issues.  But we try to work things out by talking and and understanding.  I can't leave out the most important component to a good marriage and that is God and also Prayer.  Trust me when I say that as a Mother of 3 children, a husband, a pit/rockweiler mix dog that I pray a lot. I also babysit a three year old and have an infant on the way in January so Prayer and God is my plan of action.

Would you like to win a copy of !A Lifelong Love~?  Maybe you know someone going through a hard time with their marriage and you would like to give this as a gift?  Well, here is your chance to win a copy of the book and you can keep it for yourself or you can give as a gift. This was one of my better reads in a really long time.  Not sure if it is because I have a little one in kindergarten and some of the arguments I have had is mentioned in this book or what! I have recently had to visit my little ones school and class several times and we have just ended our first nine weeks of school, to give you some idea of how long we have been in school.  It is crazy that one parent has to go to the school so much but when they are in Kindergarten you feel you need to do everything in your power to help them get settled, especially when your child was never away from Mama prior to this big change.

When I found out that my child was going to have to know not only her alphabet, her colors, her name, address, phone number, which is what I would expect a Kindergartner to know by the time they finish, she also has to know how to read what I feel is a third grade level, identify the parts of a book, know how to write, and get those much needed social skills.

This book talks about our babies and what they need not only from us as parents but from Society, our schools, and our teachers.  One of the things he talks about that really struck home was that when a child starts Kindergarten they should be learning through play and not so much structure.   I remember, believe it or not, being in Kindergarten myself and it was always fun.  We played, we took naps, and we learned the structures of school, but without having so much pressures of what we had to know.  My little one so far has come home and taught me Spanish, showed me the sign language she has learned, and taught me songs that she has learned.  That being said, she is nothing like her Mama has she has it made.  She remembers what she hears and sees and so even this program will not be a problem for her, though I may have never gotten out of Kindergarten if they had required that from me.

This is just about school and what they need to be doing or what they should know.  The title is "Their Name is Today", what does that say to you?  To me that tells me that they are our Future Presidents, Congress, House Reps., and Future work force and leaders. We need to give them not only the actually food to survive but we need to be teaching them the life skills that need to be the best Parents, friends, and leaders that can be but to not overwhelm them with the stresses that will come.  It should be fun and stress free for now.

Do you know someone that would enjoy reading this book?  Maybe you or a friend?  Here is your chance to win a copy of this book.  I have only gave you an insight to a very small part of this book in hopes that you get the idea of how great it is without giving away all the details it contains.   This will be a easy entry to win, all you have to do is follow the instructions below. If you don' t have a twitter account you can skip any you don't want to do.  All are not required but the more you do the more chances you have at winning!  Good Luck and I hope you enjoy the bookas much as I have!

Purex Crystrals Review

Disclaimer: I received a free sample of the Purex Crystals to try out for myself and to give my opinion of the product.  However the statement below is 100% mine and is not forced upon me by any means.  What I have written are my words and not someone else unless other wise stated I.E. my family expressed their thoughts on the products.

First let me tell you that I am a huge fan of Purex.  I love the detergent, the scent boosters, and even the Fabric softener sheets.  Purex hasn't failed me yet and after having seen everything they have out, I tend to ask myself can they really out do themselves?  Well, yes they can and they have!

Purex has now come out with Purex Crystals Aromatherapy blends, and I can't say enough about them.  As usual the price is right, they smell great, and make even my kids stinky socks nose worthy.  I was given the Energy blend and everyone in my house thinks I have done something different but they just don't know what.  Truth is, I really haven't done anything different but Purex has.

The new scents are:
Well Being brightens any mood with the happy fragrance of fresh blossoms
Energy helps you tackle any day with the stimulating power of citrus
Serenity keeps you calm all day long with the gentle scent of water-lilies

Can you imagine having something to wash your laundry with that would actually give you little boost of energy, give you the calming effect for the day, or make you just feel happy for the day?  I asked myself how do I know which boost to use?  Maybe I don't want energy that day but I need the Well Being or Serenity.  Honestly, I couldn't answer that question but I do know that any of the three would be great pretty much anytime.  Now that being said, I want the Serenity in my bed sheets just for the obviousness of the relaxing spirit it would bring, or maybe the Well Being, but definitely NOT the Energy.  When I go to bed I tend to want to sleep, although that seems to be the time I think about other things that I didn't get done that day or what I have to get done tomorrow.

Now, there are other uses for the boosters besides just using them in your laundry.  These are not things that Purex has said you can use them for so I say try at your own risk but I myself have tried them with no problems.  One use is you can put some in a sheer bag and place pretty much anywhere.  In your closet, in your drawers, or just place randomly throughout your house.  It just gives a wonderful scent to everything and nothing smells better to me than clean laundry.  If you have pets or small children you do want to keep these where they can not get them and/or eat them. I have also placed them in cabinets where I keep older books so that I don't smell the old paper but the sweet aroma of the Purex crystals.  I wouldn't recommend using them around any food products, especially any food products that are exposed (onion, apples, etc)

Have you tried the New Purex Crystals aromatherapy line?  What is your favorite part about the Purex Crystals?  Share your ideas of other ways that you can use them, and how you use them in your house!

ABOUT THE BAND:
Manic Drive has been widely known as a Canadian band who always delivers a great show, but over the past few years and project releases, they have added to their extensive touring of Canadian and US markets multiple Billboard Top 10 & 20 singles on CHR & Christian Rock Radio. Manic Drive is clearly very intentional about reaching their generation and inspiring them to pursue a deeper walk with Christ and to get involved in changing the world they are inheriting. And they are uniquely equipped to do so. The band members, all in their early-mid twenties, have made sacrifices to pursue God’s call on their lives. Their life experience, spiritual maturity and ministry have opened doors to speak into the lives of their own generation and that is perhaps the most defining characteristic of this group of guys.

My Thoughts:

When I first go the CD I was thinking about when would be a good time to listen so that I wouldn't be disturbed and could really get a feel for the music and lyrics.  Well, it is NEVER quiet in my house and I had to go get the older kids from High School, so I figured my ride there would be a good time.

I had about 30 minutes from the time I got into the car until the kids started rolling in.  After listening to the music on my drive, I thought this is really more of the younger generations music.  I was raised on the Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, and Country music so I wasn't able to relate to this music as well as my niece and nephew.  My son bless his heart, he is as old as I am when it comes to music.  Even as a child or teen I was never the "Rock" type, so I guess because I don't listen to it here my son has just got accustomed to what I listen to.

Now that being said my 10 year old daughter, was really just all about the CD.  She asked me could she borrow it and she listens to it regularly.   This is a Christian Rock Band, so it is what it says.  Me and the girls listen to this when we are riding in the van and it gives me a little quiet time for the ride.   This is a great CD for the one's that like a very up-beat tune and you can really enjoy together!
